May 2006 Triple Demonstration

Another vibrant and exciting night of bonsai demonstrations was experienced by Bonsai Northwest members as Barry, David, Ted (and Quentin) took to the stage in a Triple Demonstration. Barry worked on a very old cedar, David trimmed up a Chamaecyparis while Quentin gave Ted a hand working on an old pine.

Barry worked on removing some of the ugly surface roots on this old cedar.

Barry starts to remove one of the ugly surface roots.

Barry removes some of the old soil to have a closer look at the roots.

Barry holds up a sketch drawn by John Naka many years ago of this Cedar.

Barry does some trimming.

Barry intends to eventually plant this tree in a much shallower pot.

David worked on this Chamaecyparis which he initially styled 4 years ago at a club demonstration.

David explained the growth habits of this tree and how he kept the foliage compact.

David does some trimming.

Looking very nice.

This old black pine has lost its vigour and its lower branches have lost the ability to bud back.

Ted explains what he would like to see happen to his tree.

Quentin gives Ted a hand with trying to style this into a literati.

Quentin cuts back this tree heavily for a literati style.

Ted applies wire to the branches for heavy bending.

Lovely initial styling of this literati.
