October 2005 Arthur Robinson Satsuki Azalea Workshops and Demonstration

Over the weekend of 8th & 9th October, our special guest from WA, Arthur Robinson, shared his considerable knowledge and experience of Satsuki azaleas in 3 workshop sessions.

Workshop participants began by removing all flowers/buds from their azaleas.

Arthur discussed the style choices with the participant and drew a sketch of the expected outcome.

Lots of branches were cut away.

Heavy wire was wrapped in newspaper to protect the bark and trunks were wired and shaped.

Lots of fine wiring and shaping of branches.

Participants happy with the beginnings of fine Satsuki azalea bonsai.

Guests from many other bonsai clubs joined BNW members for a Satsuki bonsai demonstration by Arthur Robinson on Sunday afternoon.

Arthur demonstrates wiring technique and explains wrapping wire in newspaper to protect bark.

Arthur restyles a Satsuki bonsai.

Arthur creates a bonsai from nursery stock, assisted by club president Barry.
