On Sunday 24th October members of Bonsai Northwest and Bendigo bonsai club, lead by David Allen from Bendigo, embarked on a dig for olive trees in the Boort area, 2.5hrs outside of Melbourne. A lot of sweat and hardwork were involved in digging the olives up, not to mention the constant irritation of hundreds of flies buzzing around us. But I think everyone walked away happy. A huge thanks to Dave Allen for organising and letting Bonsai Northwest share in a great opportunity.
Rendezvous at Charlton Roadhouse, 9.30am. 34 members from BNW made the trip. Dave Allen lays down the law. The digging starts. Victor & Ray contemplate the next step. Victor gets stuck in. Victor needed some remedial back massage. Victor & Ray's final haul. Ian digs up a fine little specimen Ian pretty happy with his find. Arthur digs up a good one too. Pat finds a little beauty. More little trees dug up. Some big trees too. More trees waiting to go home. The back of the ute was full too. Some people tried towing them out. A big crowd gathered to witness..... Shane finally get his tree - the biggest one dug up on the day. Picnic lunch by the side of the road. Or on the bonet. A bird's nest was found in one of the olive trees and left undisturbed. The bus returns to the Melton meeting point, members pack their cars & a great day ends.
