Another huge turnout to our extremely popular workshop nights. Considering it is repotting season now, lots of members brought in trees to work on and seek advice for. It was a full house.
Another huge turnout. A large Seiju elm in need of some work. Brad got stuck into it first. Victor lent a hand too while the owner took off a large branch. Victor added some final touches. A beautiful Scots pine ready to be styled. Steve helped George out with excellent advice and did some initial styling. On its way to being a great tree in a few years time. A nice Japanese Maple ready for a trim. Japanese Maple after restyling. This tall tree was also ready for a restyle. Dave Allen bent the top down to form this. A large juniper also in need of some advice. Barry puts in his suggestions. I'm thinking a lot of raffia and heavy bending are required. Barry removes the tap root of this Japanese maple which has been grown through a hole in a ceramic tile. This technique allows the seedling to air layer itself and grow lateral roots for a nice root spread and hopefully beautiful future nebari. Brad helping out a new member. Quentin instructs Victor and Ray to apply more bends to the trunk, while Dave Allen looks on. Peter and Lola hard at work. Peter having a look at Irene's cascade desert ash. Quentin gives Irene a hand with her Ash. It's been repotted and is looking good. Discussion continues about whether the back branch needs to be removed. Dave Allen with his collected English elm. David Fulton helping out new members as well. David and Barry discussing Ian's trident maple. An Olive from the display table. Japanese Maple root over rock. A lovely corky bark chinese elm in an ice-cream container ready for a repot. Azalea starting to bloom. A gorgeous chinese elm with beautiful ramification. Not the right time to be repotting Banksia. The owner put this back in his car. A magnificent Corky bark chinese elm. Semi-cascade hawthorn. Big and powerful beech.
