May 2002 - A Triple Demonstration

3 Bonsai artists working on 3 different trees. A great crowd pleaser! Lots of questions from over 80 members who turned out on this Autumn night to see this tremendous demonstration.

David Fulton was planting 5 Sergeants Junipers in a clump setting.
Steve Clark chose a Juniper Procumbens to style.
Barry Woods wanted to help this old group of 3 Japanese Maples discover a new lifel
David wired and placed his trees together in the pot
Barry wanted to thread graft a couple of branches as well as rejuvenate the roots.
Steve got to work on his branch selection
After some shocks from the audience as he chopped off branch after branch (all planned!) he revealed his ultimate aim, this literati style Juniper.
David was doing some of the final work at home. An hour and a half was just not enough time.
Barry with his 'finished' work! Note the Maples growing in tubes, that have been thread grafted onto the older trunks.
Detail of where Barry drilled through the trunk then pushed the seedling Maple through. This creates a branch where before there wasn't one.
A very pretty Serissa off the show bench
Detail of the mauve Serissa Flowers
The display bench had some great Autumn colour
A lovely trident maple which had shed its leaves early.
