Janet Sabey comes from Adelaide, South Australia and is well known for her Bonsai skills Australia wide! On a lightning visit to us in Melbourne as a featured guest demonstrator, Janet exposed the beauty of Australia's best loved FIREWOOD!, the Mallee Root.

Janet Sabey - treated us to a fantastic demo
The Mallee Root - a lignotuber - extremely hard wood used mainly for firewood in Australia - until NOW!
Janet places the first 'rock' or Mallee Root into position.
Being careful of space and direction, Janet places several more pieces of Mallee Root. The mountains are ready.
The tiny Olive trees were collected near Janet's home in South Australia. They do extremely well in S.A's climate.
The audience had to approve the placement of the first tree.
Two more Olives really set the picture.
Another of the Mallee Roots which will be used as a basis for a Formal upright using this as a false trunk.
Detail of the amazing gnarls and twists on the Mallee Roots
Janet with her finished Desertscape. A saikei which was greeted with great applause.
