Lee Wilson Demonstration - July 2nd 2001

Well known Bonsai exponent & treasurer of AABC, Lee Wilson comes from Sydney Australia, where he runs a retail Bonsai Nursery - TriColour Nursery. The nursery is situated in Garden Street, Warriewood, New South Wales. Phone (02) 9997 4108.

Lee holds classes at the nursery, stocks all requirements for Bonsai enthusiasts and features a permanent Bonsai Exhibition.

Lee came to Bonsai Northwest for our Monday evening meeting as guest demonstrator. With stock he had only just viewed, Lee put together a group of Trident Maples. Later in the demo, he turned a 'group planting' into a 'forest planting' with the addition of natural grasses, ferns, rocks and surface pebbling.

The first tree is chosen and prepared
Then second and third trees are added
About 20 trees were placed with NO top pruning - yet!

Adjustments were made before branch trimming
In order to differentiate between a 'group planting' and a 'forest planting', Lee used large numbers of grasses, ferns, rocks & pebbles to 'naturalise the setting.
He used 5 different pebble covers in varying diametres from 2 mm to 1 cm. The largest grasses were placed around the number 1 tree area.
Here the trees have had their first trim
The largest crowd we've ever had. Eighty five percent of members turned out for the Wintery demonstration!
And NO ONE fell asleep!
Here, the forest is finished it's initial planting. It will now be trimmed regularly encouraging top growth and branching.
